This is a mid-20th-century vernacular wooden stool of the type often referred to as a milking or utility stool. The stool comprises a solid circular wooden seat supported by four turned and tapering legs. The legs are connected by circular stretchers at two levels to provide structural reinforcement. The entire piece is coated in a layer of white paint. The construction follows traditional dowelled joinery techniques. There are no visible maker’s marks, stamps, or labels on the item.
