The literary selection includes Marshall Pugh, Commander Crabb (Macmillan); Billy Bremner, You Get Nowt For Being Second; N. Shorrick, Lion in the Sky (Federal); Ronald Fraser, The Habitable Earth; Peter Batty, The House of Krupp (Secker and Warburg); Compton Mackenzie, The Windsor Tapestry; Neville Randall, That Bleeding Piece of Earth (Elek); The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Spring Books); and Eric Maple, The Domain of Devils (Robert Hale). The volumes are bound in various publisher’s cloth and boards, several retaining original pictorial dust jackets.
Accompanying the books are two S.O. Book 134 indexed notebooks (96 pages) produced for Her Majesty’s Stationery Office (HMSO). The first notebook features a hand-lettered title Telephone Numbers and Addresses and is inscribed to Ian G. Smith C.P.O. (Chief Petty Officer). It bears a stamped mark for the R.N. and R.M. Careers Office, 274/275 Broad St., Birmingham, Warks., B1 2DJ. The second notebook, titled Names and Addresses, is stamped with the E II R royal cypher and bears a printer’s mark dated April 1960 (4/60).
