This large metal cremation urn is of a type frequently identified in the trade as the Dynasty pattern. The vessel is of ovoid form with a stepped, domed lid featuring a screw-fitting closure. It is constructed from a yellow base metal, likely brass, and finished with a combination of silver and gold-toned plating to create a parcel-gilt effect. The exterior surface is densely decorated with chased-style scrolling foliate motifs and multi-petalled floral blooms set against a textured gold-toned ground. The design is executed in a style characteristic of Anglo-Indian metalwork from the Kutch region. The interior of the lid retains a bright gold-wash finish, while the interior of the vessel appears dark. No maker’s marks or hallmarks are visible.
Height: approximately 30 cm.
