A large framed reproduction print after the original oil painting by Elizabeth Thompson, also known as Lady Butler. The work, titled Quatre Bras, depicts the 28th (North Gloucestershire) Regiment of Foot during the 1815 Battle of Quatre Bras. The scene illustrates the British infantry formed in a defensive square, shown in their distinctive red coats and shakos, engaged in combat amidst heavy musket smoke and an oncoming cavalry charge. The print is presented under glass and set within a substantial dark-stained wooden frame with a gilded inner slip. A metal plaque is affixed to the centre of the bottom rail of the frame, inscribed with the title QUATRE BRAS and the artist’s name and dates Elizabeth Thompson 1846-1933. Two white auction labels bearing the number 1148 are adhered to the frame.
