A rectangular Chinese-style jewellery chest constructed from a reddish-brown hardwood. The chest is heavily embellished with decorative brass hardware, including ruyi-cloud-form corner mounts and side handles. The hinged top lid features a central circular brass medallion inlaid with a fretwork pattern representing the stylised Shou character, a traditional Chinese symbol for longevity. The front of the chest features two doors secured by an oversized, ornate brass hasp with etched floral and foliate motifs, designed for use with a traditional bar lock. The doors open to reveal an interior fitted with three graduated drawers. The interior of the lid and all drawers are lined with a red silk-style brocade fabric featuring woven floral and bamboo patterns. One drawer is specifically fitted with ring rolls for jewellery storage. The piece is finished with further brass mounts to the corners and base.
