Two novelty ceramic teapots, produced in the Staffordshire whimsical design tradition. The first teapot is modelled as a theatrical stage, decorated with motifs and scenes from William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. One face depicts the character Hamlet on stone steps encountering a spectral figure, set against a backdrop of draped blue curtains. The side panel features a central cartouche inscribed Hamlet, flanked by comedy and tragedy masks. The piece is finished with gilt-coloured highlights on the lid, handle, and spout. The second teapot is designed as an octagonal Victorian conservatory. The lid forms a pointed, faceted roof decorated with climbing vines and berries. The body features arched window panels showing various garden scenes, including figures tending to plants and potted flowers. The base flange is inscribed in black ink: a conservatory teapot 88. No manufacturer marks are visible in the provided images.
