A collection of ten ceramic character jugs of varying sizes, primarily representing traditional British figures. The assortment includes a large jug depicting a man in a grey top hat and three smaller full-body or bust figures. Another grouping features three character busts: a woman in a green bonnet, a man with spectacles in a grey hat, and a man in a tricorn hat. The collection also includes three identical character jugs depicting a man in a green top hat with handles fashioned as riding crops, a design characteristic of the John Peel character. Each jug is constructed from earthenware featuring polychrome hand-painted decoration over moulded details, finished with a clear lead glaze. While no maker’s marks are visible, the forms and decorative styles are consistent with 20th-century Staffordshire potteries such as Royal Doulton, Shorter and Son, or Beswick.
