An Edwardian sterling silver and base-metal parasol or walking stick handle component, identified as the patented produced by the London firm Thomas Brigg and Sons. The item comprises a bulbous silver head with embossed swirl-fluted decoration atop a silver collar. This collar is joined to a hollow, notched cylindrical shaft of base-metal, likely brass. The collar is stamped with the words VISCOUNTESS GALWAY, PATENT, and BRIGG. It also bears a full set of British hallmarks including the maker mark T.B in a lobed shield for Thomas Brigg and Sons, the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard head assay mark for London, and the date letter r for 1912. This piece belonged to Viscountess Galway.
