A mid-20th-century decorative wall-mounted bust, rendered in the exoticist style popular during the 1950s and 1960s. The piece depicts a stylized female figure, possibly inspired by Southeast Asian or Balinese dance costume. The figure is shown with a black skin tone, closed eyes, and vibrant red lips. She wears an elaborate headdress adorned with gold-toned circular motifs and a red-and-gold patterned band. A matching textured garment is draped over her right shoulder. The hair is sculpted into stylized black waves. Based on visual inspection, the item is constructed from molded and painted plaster, a material commonly referred to as chalkware. There are no visible maker’s marks or stamps. Such pieces were frequently produced by commercial decorative firms as mass-market home decor.
Length: approximately 30 cm.
