Two pieces of contemporary studio pottery. The first is a stoneware vessel by Peter Beard (British, b. 1951), of tapered cylindrical form with a rounded, uneven rim and a turned foot ring. The piece is finished with a vibrant, multi-tonal glaze in shades of turquoise, teal, and deep blue, featuring a prominent diagonal band of textured, cratered lava glaze in cream and grey tones. The base bears an impressed circular mark containing the characters PB. The second is a hand-built rectangular stoneware vessel with rounded corners and a thick yellow-glazed rim. It is densely decorated with intricate, multi-coloured geometric and floral patterns arranged in bands, including blue and ochre square motifs, spiral designs, and floral or snowflake patterns. The decoration continues through the body, consistent with a nerikomi or agateware technique. This vessel is unmarked.
Peter Beard vessel: height 10.5 cm
