An Edwardian sterling silver commemorative pin dish, centrally inset with a South African Republic (ZAR) penny dated 1898. The coin obverse features the bust of Paul Kruger surrounded by the legend ZUID AFRIKAANSCHE REPUBLIEK, while the reverse, visible from the underside of the dish, shows the ZAR coat of arms, the denomination 1 PENNY, and the date 1898. The coin appears to have a gilded finish. The face of the silver dish is embossed with the commemorative text KRUGERS LAST COIN. The dish bears a full set of British hallmarks on the interior rim, including the maker mark L & S for the Birmingham silversmiths Levi and Salaman, the lion passant for .925 sterling silver, the anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, and the date letter i for 1908.
