A mechanical musical mantel or boudoir clock attributed to the German maker Emes, featuring a Swiss musical movement. The shaped metal case is finished in a pale mint green paint, decorated to the front with a hand-painted floral spray depicting a rose and greenery. The cream-coloured dial is framed by a gold-toned metal bezel and features gold-toned Arabic numerals from 1 to 12. It has three ornate gold-toned hands, including a trigger hand for the musical alarm. The word FOREIGN is printed at the base of the dial. An original paper label on the side identifies the musical movement as being by Gueissaz (E. Gueissaz & Fils, Ste-Croix, Switzerland) and specifies that it plays the waltz Over the Waves (Ueber den Wellen). The reverse of the clock features winding keys and controls for setting the time and alarm.
