A pair of Lancaster & Sons (Hanley) Ltd earthenware salt and pepper shakers of rectangular form with rounded shoulders and corners. The bodies are decorated with transfer-printed and hand-tinted overglaze scenes depicting a fox hunting motif with a huntsman in a red coat on a bay horse, accompanied by hounds and a female figure in a green dress and apron. The background features a village setting with a building resembling a public house. The ceramic has a yellow-toned ground. Each shaker is fitted with a removable electroplated nickel silver mount; the salt shaker features a single large aperture and the pepper shaker features multiple small perforations. The bases are marked with a circular black backstamp for Lancasters Ltd, Hanley, England. The metal collars are stamped E.P.N.S.
