A small, oval-shaped lidded box finished in traditional Japanese urushi lacquer. The exterior is coated in a deep, high-gloss dark brown or black lacquer, featuring two stylized bird motifs, likely representing plovers (chidori). These motifs are applied in gold-coloured lacquer, with one bird depicted in solid silhouette and the other in outline, characteristic of maki-e decoration. The interior of both the lid and the base is finished in a contrasting vibrant cinnabar red lacquer. No maker marks or inscriptions are visible on the piece.
