An assortment of scientific and technical drawing equipment featuring instruments by several prominent British and European makers. The collection includes a Philips’ Pocket Surveyor, designed by G. C. Sherrin and housed in its original brown cardboard slipcase. The box is printed with the text Philips’ Pocket Surveyor, George Philip and Son Ltd, 32 Fleet Street, London, E.C.4. The interior contains a blackened metal surveying device with a wheel mechanism. A Victorian mathematical drawing set is presented in a mahogany case with a dark blue velvet-lined interior. The interior lid is gilt-stamped with the mark for J.H. Steward Optician London. The instruments in this set are constructed from brass and steel and include various dividers and compasses. The group also features a mid-twentieth-century technical drawing set by A.G. Thornton, identified by a gold-embossed stylized logo on the black textured case. This set contains chrome-plated steel instruments and a plastic lead tube. A modern technical drawing set by the German manufacturer Haff is included, housed in a black case with a bright blue molded interior, containing a large compass marked Haff and an extension bar. Additional items in the collection comprise a large handheld magnifying glass with a circular lens, brass frame, and turned wooden handle, a small dark blue textured case marked Sharp, and a grey painted metal storage box featuring the stamped characters DM.
