This collection consists of several ceramic advertising water jugs featuring various beverage and tobacco brands, typical of British pub memorabilia from the mid-to-late 20th century. The collection includes a Famous Grouse Scotch Whisky jug of rounded form with a white glaze, featuring a red grouse illustration and the text THE FAMOUS GROUSE above FINEST SCOTCH WHISKY. A rectangular-bodied jug for Stones Best Bitter is finished in a buff-orange glaze with a central oval label featuring a cannon motif and decorative scrollwork. A wedge-shaped Johnnie Walker Scotch Whisky jug features a white crackle-effect glaze and a diagonal red label with gold-tone script reading Johnnie Walker. There is a pair of tapered cylindrical Chivas Regal 12 Year Old Scotch Whisky jugs with a cream glaze, tan interiors, and gold-coloured rims, each featuring a diagonal maroon and gold label. Completing the collection is a modern-style Lambert & Butler King Size tobacco jug of divided wedge shape, finished in black on one side and light grey on the other, featuring the LB logo and diagonal red and black stripes. While similar advertising ware is frequently attributed to manufacturers such as Wade, Seton Pottery, or Euro-Ceramics, no maker’s marks are visible on these examples.
