This lot features two traditional Scottish-style brooches. The first is a grouse claw brooch with sterling silver mounts. The mount around the toe is hallmarked with the maker mark W.B for Ward Brothers, a thistle for Scottish sterling silver, an Edinburgh castle town mark, and a date letter p. The top of the claw is set with a large, oval, faceted orange-coloured stone, possibly citrine or paste, within a decorative claw setting. It is fitted with a horizontal pin and C-clasp on the reverse. The second item is a kilt pin or tassel brooch consisting of a dense bundle of natural two-tone animal hair, likely deer or badger, secured within a tapered silver-toned metal mount. The mount is decorated with an applied thistle motif and features a safety-pin style fastener.
