A Staunton-pattern wooden chess set attributed to Jaques of London, comprising boxwood and ebonised wood pieces, housed in a fitted mahogany box. The set features hand-carved knights and weighted pieces with green-felted bases, characteristic of mid-to-late 19th-century craftsmanship. The rectangular mahogany box has a divided interior lined with green baize and is fitted with brass hinges. The carving style of the knights is highly consistent with the Jaques designs of the period. No maker’s labels, stamps, or marks are visible on the pieces or the box.
