A German stoneware spirit decanter produced by Simon Peter Gerz. This item is designed in a rustic barkware style, featuring a flattened bulbous body and a narrow neck with a matching stopper. The exterior is finished with a thick, dark brown textured coating intended to simulate tree bark. The front of the decanter contains a recessed circular panel with a relief-moulded scene depicting a bearded man in traditional Alpine attire smoking a pipe, finished in brown and ochre glazes. The reverse side is similarly textured and includes three applied cross-sections of wood branches that serve as feet. The base is embossed with the volume 0.7 L, the model number 148, and the Gerz trefoil factory mark. A hand-painted letter F is also visible on the base.
The neck and stopper section measures approximately 10 cm in length.
