A Russian papier-mache lacquer box of rectangular form with rounded corners and a hinged lid. The exterior is finished in black lacquer, while the interior features a traditional vibrant red lacquer. The lid is decorated with a hand-painted miniature in the Fedoskino style, executed in oil paints. The scene depicts a young woman, identified as the folk figure Snegurochka or the Snow Maiden, dressed in a fur-trimmed hat and a blue coat embellished with intricate gold scrolling filigree on the sleeves. The figure is set against a hazy winter forest landscape. The painting is framed by a gold foliate border. Along the right vertical edge of the lid, the box bears two inscriptions in gold Cyrillic: ВАСИН Н. (transliterated as N. Vasin), identifying the artist, and ФЕДОСКИНО (transliterated as Fedoskino), indicating the village of origin. This item represents the realistic oil painting techniques characteristic of the Fedoskino school from the late 20th century.
Width: approximately 10.5 cm.
