A small globular porcelain bowl, likely intended as a brush washer or decorative vessel, featuring hand-painted overglaze polychrome enamel and gilt decoration. The exterior is decorated with a detailed scene of a peacock perched amongst blossoming cherry tree branches. The rim is finished with two distinct decorative borders: a green and yellow hexagonal kikko (tortoiseshell) pattern punctuated by red florets, and a delicate band of pink floral scrolls. The interior is finished with a plain white glaze. The underside bears a red four-character square seal mark reading Kutani Hoshizo (九谷星造). This piece is characteristic of Japanese Kutani ware from the late Meiji or early Taisho period.
