A rectangular Chinese scholar’s paperweight, cast in metal, likely bronze, featuring a multi-coloured patinated finish. The central decoration comprises an applied figure of a chihui (hornless dragon) with a greenish-brown patina, intertwined with a stylised ruyi or cloud scroll finished in a reddish-brown patina. These figures are mounted onto a heavy, dark-patinated rectangular base. This piece is characteristic of the scholar’s desk objects designed in the late 19th to early 20th century. No maker’s marks, signatures, or inscriptions are visible on the surfaces shown.
