A pair of hand-carved hardwood bookends featuring stylised water buffalo heads and forequarters. The figures emerge from L-shaped supports, with the animals depicted in a reaching or charging pose. The wood is finished in a deep, warm brown tone with a polished patina. Each backplate is ornately decorated with traditional chip-carving, displaying a vertical sequence of floral rosettes enclosed within diamond-shaped borders and framed by a sawtooth-notched edge. The pieces exhibit characteristic joinery lines where the carved animal elements are attached to the supports. No signatures, maker’s marks, or labels are visible on the pieces.
