A Victorian style music stand of duet form, constructed from a dark stained hardwood, likely mahogany?. The piece features two opposing, openwork carved music desks, each centred with a lyre motif containing three vertical gilt-metal effect rods. The desks are decorated with elaborate scrollwork and acanthus leaf carvings, and each is fitted with a pair of adjustable gilt-metal effect page holders at the base. The stand is supported by a turned and tiered central column, which appears to be height-adjustable. The whole rests upon a tripod base with three down-swept cabriole legs terminating in pad feet. The wood is finished with a warm brown polish. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible.
