A mid-20th-century ladies’ car-length fur coat, likely dating from the 1960s or 1970s. The exterior is constructed from French rabbit skins, traditionally known in the trade as coney fur. The garment features a naturalistic vertical panel construction, alternating between dark brown and golden-tan tones to create a striped aesthetic. The coat is styled with a substantial shawl collar and full-length sleeves. The interior is fully lined with a brown woven fabric. A woven manufacturer’s label is stitched to the lining, printed in both English and French, which reads: REAL CONEY FUR – LINING: 100% ACETATE / FUR IS A DELICATE LUXURY ITEM AND MUST BE TREATED WITH CARE. / GARMENT IS MANUFACTURED FROM THE FINEST FRENCH RABBIT SKINS. / ALTHOUGH IT MAY SHED TO A SLIGHT DEGREE, THIS SHOULD NOT DETRACT / FROM ITS OVER ALL APPEARANCE. A separate small white woven tag is printed with the number 12.
