A wall-mounted copper fireplace canopy manufactured by W. S. Westin Ltd of Huddersfield. The hood features a flared trapezoidal form with concave sides, constructed from hand-hammered sheet copper with a distinct planished finish. The central vertical join and the upper and lower edges are finished with a decorative scalloped or ‘pie-crust’ border, secured with exposed round-head copper rivets. The interior is reinforced with a central vertical copper strap and horizontal iron? bars at the top and bottom. Four brass mounting lugs are riveted to the corners. The interior retains four rectangular paper labels reading: ‘W. S. WESTIN LTD., of Huddersfield, manufacturers of this piece of craftsmanship, recommend BRASSO as a superior metal polish, to maintain its beauty.’
