A British miner’s safety flame lamp of traditional form, constructed from polished brass with a clear glass cylindrical mid-section. The lamp features a tapered upper bonnet and a solid circular base, connected by four vertical brass pillars which protect the internal glass. The top is fitted with a large swivel hanging hook. A circular brass maker’s plate is riveted to the bonnet, reading THE PROTECTOR LAMP & LIGHTING Co. LTD around the outer edge, with the central text stating TYPE 6 M & Q SAFETY LAMPS APPROVAL No B/28 and MAKERS ECCLES below. The internal burner and wick assembly are visible through the glass. The device includes a lead seal locking mechanism at the base designed to prevent unauthorised opening in hazardous environments. The vertical pillars exhibit some heat-related blueing towards the top.
