A Victorian presentation trowel and a matching candle douter, both constructed from white metal. The ceremonial trowel features a lobed blade with a pointed tip, decorated with an engraved foliate and scrollwork border surrounding a plain central field. The cast neck is ornamented with high-relief acanthus leaves and floral motifs, joining to a turned and polished wooden handle with a high-gloss finish. The accompanying candle douter is of bell-shaped form with fluted sides, featuring a scrolled finger grip attached to the top by a mechanical pivot. The interior of the bell displays a gilt effect finish. No assay marks or maker’s marks are visible on either piece.
Length: Approximately 28 cm (Trowel).
