A group of seven cast iron weights intended for use with a steelyard or large balance scale. The set comprises five weights of tapered, trapezoidal block form and two larger rectangular block weights with rounded upper corners. Each weight is constructed from cast iron with a rustic, oxidised finish and features an integrated cast loop at the apex. Attached to each loop is a heavy-gauge steel wire suspension hook. The underside of the weights bear cast-in alphanumeric markings: one trapezoidal weight is marked 2912 and LFA 4; another trapezoidal weight is marked 2912 and LFA 6; and the largest rectangular weight is marked 2913 and LFA 9. Other pieces in the collection feature similar, partially obscured cast markings of the same series.
