A vintage Escape From Colditz strategy board game, based on the historical World War II POW camp at Colditz Castle. The game is housed in its original cardboard box, featuring a dramatic cover illustration of prisoners attempting a nighttime escape from the castle ramparts, with German soldiers in pursuit. This edition was devised by Major P. R. Reid, M.B.E., M.C., and includes a printed signature of the author on the lower left of the cover. The box bears the Parker swirl logo and the title in a gothic script accompanied by a swastika emblem. The internal contents comprise a folding cardboard game board depicting the castle layout, two red plastic dice, and an assortment of forty plastic pawns in red, black, orange, green, and blue. Included is a variety of paper ephemera and cards, including escape kits and identity papers designed to mimic historical documents. A notable interior element is a cardboard storage box styled as a British Red Cross and Order of St. John war organisation prisoner’s parcel, bearing the transcription KRIEGSGEFANGENENPOST and COMITE INTERNATIONAL CROIX ROUGE, GENEVE-TRANSIT, SUISSE. Printed instructions and game legends are located on the inner lid and accompanying leaflets.
