An assortment of antique brass postal scales and graduated weights, comprising two distinct mechanical balance instruments mounted on mahogany bases. The first scale features a decorative, openwork brass frame with a central balance pointer and two rectangular pans with raised edges. The second scale is constructed with a vertical balance pointer and a cross-beam assembly above a mahogany base. Both instruments operate on an equal-arm balance mechanism. The lot includes a variety of brass weights, including circular nested weights and several bell-shaped weights with handles. The weights bear various stamped denominations including 1 LB, 8 OZ, 4 OZ, 2 OZ, 1 OZ, and 1/2 OZ. A small white adhesive inventory label is attached to the mechanism of one scale, hand-written with the characters Scales £39 D/L. The brass surfaces throughout display a natural aged patina with surface oxidation and tarnish.
