A set of vintage pan-and-plate counter balance scales, likely of British manufacture for commercial or domestic use. The scales feature a heavy cast-iron base with a patinated ochre and green finish, supporting a polished brass weighing pan and a secondary circular cast-iron weight plate. The mechanism includes a central brass indicator pointer for leveling. The front of the base is fitted with a rectangular metal plate bearing the impressed text TO WEIGH 4 LB, indicating the maximum capacity. On the reverse, a remnant of a green adhesive label is visible with the characters LYCO. The scales are accompanied by an assortment of imperial weights including a graduated stack of four hexagonal nested weights and several circular iron disc weights. The legible markings on the disc weights include 1 lb, 8 OZ, and 4 OZ.
