A collection of framed stipple engravings with hand-colouring, forming part of the Cries of London series after original paintings by Francis Wheatley R.A. (1747–1801). The subjects depicted include various street vendors and hawkers of the late 18th century, such as milkmaids, fruit sellers, and flower girls. The prints are executed using a combination of etching and stipple engraving techniques to achieve tonal depth. Each plate features bilingual titles in English and French in the lower margin. Legible inscriptions in the lower margins include Painted by F. Wheatley R.A., CRIES of LONDON, and titles such as Milk below, Maids, Sweet China Oranges, ripe Oranges, Primroses, two bunches a penny, and Strawberrys, Scarlet Strawberrys. Engraver credits to the right margin include Engraved by L. Schiavonetti and Engraved by G. Vendramini. The lower centre contains the publication line London, Published as the Act directs… by Colnaghi & Co. The impressions exhibit plate marks and are presented in matching mahogany-finish frames with gilt-metal effect inner borders and cream mounts.
