A collection of pocket snuff or patch boxes, including two rectangular papier-mâché? examples and one oval pressed horn? specimen. The largest rectangular box is finished in black lacquer, featuring a lid decorated with a gilded cartouche of scrolling foliate and paisley patterns, surrounded by a dense field of small gold-toned stars. The second black lacquer box is of plain rectangular form, displaying a recessed central area on the lid where a decorative inlay is absent, revealing a light-coloured ground. The third box is crafted from translucent horn? with natural dark brown mottling, designed with a small rectangular hinged lid set into the top surface. All three pieces are constructed with visible metal pin hinges. One lid bears a small, rectangular metallic inlay with an illegible engraved design that appears worn.
