A compact, coiled signal horn or duty bugle of traditional military form. The instrument is constructed with a copper? body featuring a distinctive two-coil design, joined with brass? or gilt-metal effect mounts including a flared bell rim and a detachable mouthpiece. The tubing shows evidence of hand-assembly with visible soldered seams. The mouthpiece is of characteristic shallow-cup design with a narrow throat, fitting into a tapered leadpipe. The instrument exhibits a deep, aged patina throughout the copper surfaces with visible verdigris? oxidation in the interior recesses of the coils. There are no maker marks or military broad arrow stamps legible on the exterior surfaces of the bell or tubing.
