A 2021 United Kingdom 50 pence coin struck by The Royal Mint as part of the Tales of the Earth series. This piece is the second release in the Mary Anning Collection, commemorating the discovery of the Temnodontosaurus ichthyosaur. The coin is struck with a proof finish in likely silver? with selective colour printing to the reverse design. The reverse depicts the prehistoric marine reptile swimming alongside a detailed illustration of its fossilised skull, inscribed TEMNODONTOSAURUS and MARY ANNING 1811. The coin is housed in its original clear acrylic display block which features decorative fossil-themed inclusions. The lot includes the original black inner display box, a blue outer slipcase produced in collaboration with the Natural History Museum, an information booklet, and a Certificate of Authenticity. The outer packaging is printed with THE ROYAL MINT THE ORIGINAL MAKER, TALES OF THE EARTH, THE MARY ANNING COLLECTION, and NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM. The Certificate of Authenticity is numbered 3589.
