A Victorian copper coal scuttle of traditional helmet form, constructed from sheet copper with a rolled rim. The vessel is supported on a flared circular base and features a fixed, arched overhead handle secured with cast brass? / bronze? mounts and copper rivets. A smaller, secondary tilting handle is attached to the rear of the body. The interior of the scoop displays a blackened, charred finish consistent with domestic use. The underside of the base bears an impressed mark appearing to read LONDON above four small, indistinct rectangular stamps? which are not legible as a specific maker or date letter sequence. The exterior exhibits a deep natural patina with visible surface oxidation and verdigris around the joinery.
Length: Approximately 19″.
