A heavy cast iron block weight of rectangular form with rounded corners and a central recessed handle area containing an integral iron bar. The piece is a standard British imperial half-hundredweight measure, featuring embossed characters in the casting. One raised side of the handle opening is marked with the name POOLEY, while the opposite side is marked 56 LB. The weight exhibits an all-over oxidised finish with significant surface corrosion and pitting throughout the metal. These block weights were traditionally used for industrial weighing, as test weights for platform scales, or as counterbalances.
Weight: 25.4 kg.
