A vintage electrical insulation resistance tester, commonly known as a Megger, constructed with a marbled reddish-brown phenolic / bakelite? resin housing. The instrument features a hand-cranked generator with a metal arm and matching resin handle, designed to deliver a 500-volt charge for testing. The faceplate is set with two black terminal buttons and a central curved analogue dial protected by a glass aperture. The scale is graduated in ohms and megohms, ranging from 0 to infinity (∞ MΩ). The left side of the faceplate is impressed with the text EVERSHED & VIGNOLES LTD ACTON LANE WORKS CHISWICK LONDON W.4. The right side is impressed 500 VOLTS MEGGER REG’D TRADE MARK MADE IN ENGLAND PATENT NO 400728. The instrument is accompanied by a tan leather carrying case featuring a shoulder strap and metal clasp closure.
