A wood effect resin? devotional figure of the Madonna and Child, likely produced in a Continental European style mimicking Alpine wood carving. The sculpture depicts the Virgin Mary in a serene, hooded pose, cradling the infant Christ. Both figures are shown holding a bunch of grapes, a traditional symbol of the Eucharist. The piece is constructed with stylized, deep drapery folds and finished with a dark brown stain to simulate hand-carved timber grain. Traces of gilt metal effect paint are visible along the edges of the robes and the swaddling of the child. The figure stands upon an integral, tiered octagonal base. No legible maker marks, signatures, or inscriptions are present on the external surfaces or the underside.
Height: Approximately 19 cm.
