A British Second World War civilian gas mask, identified by its single-eyepiece black rubber facepiece and cylindrical base filter. The mask is fitted with a large metal filter canister featuring a circular perforated grid pattern and finished in a distinctive turquoise-green lacquer. Accompanying the respirator is its original cylindrical metal carrying tin, finished in an olive drab paint. The tin is equipped with two wire-loop handles and a coarse fiber shoulder cord for transport. The lid of the canister is printed in black block capitals with the words GAS MASK, below which is the heading NAME & ADDRESS with a designated space for owner identification. The mask shows moulded marks near the temple which are not clearly legible as a maker name.
