A Doulton Lambeth Silicon stoneware jardiniere of bulbous, footed form. The vessel is constructed from a matte, unglazed tan-coloured stoneware body, decorated with applied sprigged relief in a contrasting cream-coloured clay. The central decorative band depicts a continuous frieze of children at play within a landscape, flanked by stylized foliate and geometric borders. The base is adorned with radiating acanthus leaf motifs above a pedestal foot. The underside of the base features an impressed rectangular cartouche with clipped corners containing the diagonal text DOULTON SILICON LAMBETH. Adjacent to this are the impressed numerals 1883 and two small star-shaped symbols, along with the characters 800. The interior shows surface deposits consistent with use as a planter.
