An antique table-top dinner gong of substantial construction. The set features a cast bronzed circular frame with decorative openwork scrollwork and a lattice-pattern support. This frame is mounted onto a shaped wooden plinth with a polished finish and moulded edges, supported by four cast foliate-scroll feet. The suspended circular gong plate is crafted from a dark-patinated copper? alloy, showing significant surface oxidation and verdigris consistent with age. A turned wooden striker with a textile-wrapped padded head is stored in two brass? cradles on the base. The striker handle is connected to the padded head by a metal rod. The metalwork displays a dark, aged patina throughout. The wooden base is finished in a deep brown tone, likely mahogany? or walnut?.
