This border is finished in a metallic gold gilt effect, decorated with raised scrollwork, foliate flourishes, and embossed scrolling patterns that extend across the background and the Virgin’s halo. The Virgin is portrayed wearing a deep red maphorion embellished with gold-toned beadwork and star motifs, while the Christ Child is dressed in golden-yellow robes, holding a scroll and gesturing. The painting style draws on traditional Byzantine and Russian Orthodox iconography with stylized features and a rich colour palette. The lower left corner of the panel bears a small circular adhesive label in a faded green tone.
