A Victorian? shell cameo brooch of oval form, mounted within a 9 carat gold frame featuring a twisted rope-work border. The central shell is carved in relief with a classical mythological scene depicting a seated draped female figure, possibly Diana the Huntress?, interacting with a hound at her feet. A winged cherub? is shown in flight above the figures against a stippled, textured background. The brooch is secured with a T-bar pin and a C-clasp to the reverse, which also features a small soldered loop for a safety chain. Stamped marks to the inner bezel of the frame read 9 and .375. The outer side of the frame bears three small hallmarks, including a central mark reading 375, though the flanking marks are not clearly legible.
