A late Victorian? 9ct yellow gold ring featuring an oval shell cameo. The hand-carved cameo depicts a female profile in relief with detailed hair and drapery, set against a warm tan ground, characteristic of the helmet shell (Cassis rufa?). The cameo is held in a rub-over setting bordered by a decorative scalloped and pierced openwork gallery. The ring is finished with split shoulders tapering to a plain, narrow shank. The inner shank is impressed with the characters 9C.
