A pair of hand-carved dark wood bookends, each featuring a stylised elephant figurine. The elephants are carved in a standing position with extended trunks and are mounted to L-shaped wooden bases. The figures display detailed carving to the ears and hides, with horizontal incisions representing trunk segments. The bases are embellished with two vertical inlaid bands of a contrasting lighter-coloured wood? to the front face. Each elephant is detailed with inset white tusks of a bone? or ivory? material. The wood exhibits a dark, polished finish with a natural grain and dense structure consistent with ebony?. The bases feature a mitred construction at the internal corners, with the inlaid decorative bands finished flush to the surface.
