A collection of mid-20th century? white metal pocket compasses of varying designs. The group features circular cases, several with hinged lids and others with fixed pendant rings, all constructed from white metal with a polished finish. The dials are primarily black with white or luminous markings for cardinal and intercardinal points, accompanied by degree scales. One dial is printed with the word FOREIGN in white uppercase letters. Three further dials are printed with the word JAPAN in a similar style. The interior of one lid is stamped with an impressed device depicting a lyre or harp within a shield border, though this is not legible as a name. The compass needles include green-tipped and yellowed luminous varieties. Several units are accompanied by detached lids and cases.
