A collection of vintage? pocket and hand compasses in varied designs and materials. The assortment includes a circular brass-cased compass with a separate lift-off lid, containing a white dial with cardinal and intercardinal points and a 0-360 degree scale, fitted with a blued-steel needle and a small suspension ring. The group further comprises two white metal hunter-style compasses with hinged lids, one being a Japanese example featuring a white dial printed JAPAN and a green-tipped luminous needle, the other a smaller model with a silvered dial. Completing the lot is a larger open-face white metal compass displaying a high-contrast black dial with white markings and a green-tipped luminous needle, attached to a substantial suspension ring. The needle tips of the white metal examples appear to have a luminous paint finish.
