A late nineteenth-century cast brass book slide end of arched form, designed in the Renaissance Revival style. The openwork decoration features stylized scrolling foliage and a central fleur-de-lis motif, bordered by an inner row of raised circular bosses. The reverse is fitted with two flat rectangular brass support bars and a central threaded iron adjustment mechanism terminating in a turned brass knob. This component was originally part of a sliding desktop book trough. There are no maker marks, factory stamps, or registration numbers visible on the item.
